It’s really a very good sight, seeing celebrities from ABS-CBN Channel 2 and GMA channel 7 giving out relief goods to Typhoon Ondoy victims. Kris Aquino, the main superstar of ABS-CBN, started the trend when she lead the ABS-CBN Channel 2 telethon. Last night, Sagip Kapamilya already got cash donations worth about P 30 million and that is quite a feat, considering that this is a private initiative.

GMA stars also went out in full force, helping our fellow kababayans in Pasig, Cainta, Marikina and some parts of Luzon. As of yesterday, there were still many people without food and water. And Pateros, one of the poorest towns in Metro Manila, is still submerged in knee-deep water. Clean up operations are on-going in Cainta, Marikina and Tanay yet the devastation is still being felt and seen not just in those areas but in other areas as well.

Kris Aquino led celebrities in asking for donations. People responded immediately. Those who did came out in droves, volunteering for Sagip Kapamilya and GMA Kapuso Foundation, and showing to the world how Filipinos respond to crises. It was a sight to behold—Filipinos feeling their sense of citizenship once again.

What this would do for our country on the long-term is build their patriotism.
