Another earthquake occurred in Metro Manila. PHILVOCS pointed to Pasig City as the epicenter of the quake. Shockwaves reached as far as Leyte. Seismologists say the quake resulted from the movements of the plates in the mountains of Rizal.
For Chinoys, natural occurrences like these are interpreted as heavenly signs against the existing administration. Filipinos hold similar beliefs. For superstitious Pinoys, this quake meant that the heavens are enraged against this government.
Last month, a series of typhoons hit the country killing at least eight people and displacing thousands of families. It was followed by an earthquake. Then another typhoon. And then this quake.
Are these bad omens? Are we expecting a not so auspicious new year?
